Do you see it? The neon pink elephant currently placing first in the worlds most intense staring contest. It follows you to the bathroom, to the shower. It glows when you try to sleep singing an originally drafted song, titled. "All the things left to do". We all have our dreams, goals, and to-do list that leaves a burning hole in our psyche. I have no shortage of stories that involve me skipping out on writing blog post. Creating ideas that just feel like a winner but stopping just short of execution. Add a dash of societal induced masochism and you'll be beating yourself up in no time.
Once I finally ran myself raged on that hamster wheel. It took a conversation with my therapist for me to explore an important question. Why as human beings do we struggle with achieving our goals. Now this has been and always will be a timeless debate. There are countless theories, answers, and scientific jargon to accompany it. However, I took it upon myself to add some Lou into this little philosophical gumbo. As of a literal thirty minutes ago. I may have just found an answer that will strike a chord. Especially if you're tired of being stepped on by social media jocks telling you, you're just lazy. But hey, if that's your thing. We don't kink shame around here.
How well do you know yourself? Better yet, how well do you know your strengths? If I asked you, what do you suck at? I'd more than likely get a detailed list neatly placed on my desk in no time. The moment I ask you, what do you do well? (i.e. what are you strengths?) A fortnight might pass before you get your mind to agree on a list that's a true reflections of your gifts. (Que brain blast) There it is, that's the Matrix. A program that keeps you plugged in through the belief that there is always something to fix. Always something else you need because the root belief that keeps you trapped is. You're not good enough. The foundational belief of my own journey.
So what does all this have to do with my goals? Flow and resistance is like water it can carry you far when you move with its current and wreak havoc when you swim against it. The state changes depending on your relationship with it. Flow, you focusing on and honing your strengths. Resistance, trying to achieve your goals while using overcoming your weakness as the focal point. One state not only places you in a positive place emotionally. Your action seem effortless. Meanwhile, the other keeps you trapped in your head creating the feedback loop of infinite problem solving.
The key to your success, the road that will lead you to your destiny. Lies in your strengths not your weaknesses. Your fear to start, your lack of consistency, or even your struggle to finish. All stems from a place of action expressed through your weakness instead of action empowered by your strength. It took me taking the Gallup strength test to discover, my perceived areas of insecurity where my strengths. My lack of success and inconsistency stemmed from me moving in a way that was out of alignment with myself. When you understand yourself, who you really are outside of our conditioning.
You gift yourself the opportunity to begin to discover what flow feels like. Truth is, our human experience is not designed to be one of only hardship. It is my sincere hope that you slowly free yourself from that belief that leaves us expecting the next dose of suffering and believing happiness is short lived. So I challenge you, spend the rest of your day focusing on, what am I doing right? If you'd like to take it a step further take the strength test yourself.(here) I'd recommend you take the full test. If your inner critic decide to focus on the price tag.
Tell it an investment in yourself is a small price to pay for being able to finally experience ease. Once you begin to live a life expressed through strength, you'll be left in awe at your rapid transformation.
